Melaka House which has "Rock Stairs" made after 60's don't have flowers motif on it; ceramic tiles as there was no more supplier in the market.
Even though small stairs and cannot get a flower motif on it's tiles, but the "mad" to have a "Rock Stairs" were still exist among the owner of Rumah Melaka, as these was a proud of being a Melaka citizen.Walaupun kecil dan tidak dapat ubin seramik yang berbungga, namun kegilaan untuk membuat tangga batu tetap ujud bagi pemilik rumah Melaka. Ini lah satu kebangaan bagi rakyat Melaka.
Melaka Traditional house or RUMAH MELAKA has a unique in design, not only by it's high roof but also by it's famous "Tangga Batu Rumah Melaka" or "ROCK STAIRS" which is made of concrete and brick. What specials about Malacca "Rock Stairs" are the strong concrete brick with a special flowery decorative tile imported mainly from China.
The Rock Stairs or these "Tangga Batu Rumah Melaka" build with usually with odd number of steps. The philosophy behind it is odd number represent God that has no similarities with God's Creations. Usually they will build staircase with 3,5 and 7 steps. the highest number of steps found in Melaka house are 9. Normal house will be no higher that 9 step except maybe for mosque or Sultans palace. 7 is favorite number of steps found in many houses. Number 7 means 7 layer of sky, 7 layer of earth, 7 days and other things related to cosmos.
The tile are arranged creatively by the craftsmen and the more tile at the staircase represent the house owner wealth. This is because at that time tiles are imported from China and it is expensive and it also their status at the village.
Rumah Traditional Melaka sememangnya unik dengan bumbung layarnya, dan ditambah pula dengan "TANGGA BATU RUMAH MELAKA" nya yang amat terkenal serta menarik dengan biasanya terdapat beberapa anak tangga dengan angka ganjil dari 3,5,7 sehingga 9 anak tangga dengan tiang utama rumah ibunya yang tinggi , biasanya bolih dilalui dibawah rumahnya. Angka ganjil melambangkan sifat TUHAN yang ganjil dan tiada kesamaan dengan makhluknya.
Yang paling menariknya, bagi rumah yang traditional yang lama"TANGGA BATU RUMAH MELAKA " biasanya menggunakan ubin seramik yang diimport biasanya dari China mempunyai motif haiwan dan bunga yang berwarna-warni dan disusun secara kreatif dan sangat menarik. Ia juga melambangkan kemewahan dan status uanpunya rumah tersebut.
